SAFETY REGULATIONS:
Our Safety Monitors will be wearing identification which will outline that they are monitoring crowd control and enforcement of convention rules.
Cosplay Item and Weapon Rules:
- All Weapons brought to the con should be FAKE and part of your costume; specifically no live steel or guns. Items that could be used as actual weapons, such as wooden swords or big sticks will need to be peace-bonded before hand or during the checkpoint during registration.
- Replica toy fire-arms need to follow government standards with the safety orange cap attached properly to the end of the barrel. Due to parental concerns and city codes we will not allow weapons of a projectile nature. Projectile weapons such as BB Guns, air-soft, paint guns will not be allowed due to city codes. Spring loaded toys and slingshots will not be permitted for safety reasons. Replica fire-arms & bow and arrows will be inspected to ensure compliance. Be creative!
- Carrying signs in the convention area will be restricted to signs that have approval by SAFETY MONITORS. As soon as you enter the convention area with your sign, find a Safety Monitor or go to the information desk to ask for your sign to be approved. Be aware we may stamp or mark your sign of approval and still possibly question for verification.
Examples of signs that COULD BE APPROVED:
- A sign that is used as a part of a cosplay costume for a non-speaking anime character, usually an animal. Please use wording that is acceptable for young anime fans. (Such as a sign for Genma in Panda-form from Ramma 1/2 or Pen-Pen from Neon Genesis Evangelion.)
- Serves a reasonable purpose (i.e. advertising an event, showing a group where to meet).
Examples of signs that are NOT APPROVED:
- Signs that advertise services in exchange for goods or other favors (i.e. Will Glomp for Pocky, Hugs for Whatever). They could violate local soliciting and/or panhandling bylaws. All panhandling, with or without the use of signs, music or entertainment WILL NOT BE ALLOWED! We regret that we will not be able to permit people to reinact this time-honored anime tradition of panhandling.
- Also, T-shirts with slogans that would be unacceptable as signs are also unacceptable for T-Shirts. The wearer may be asked to change or cover up the slogan if they wish to remain in convention space.
- Yaoi & Yuri Paddles will be classified within the signs category and therefore will not be allowed.
- By bringing any type of cosplay item, weapon, or other accessory you agree to take full responsibility for yourself and anyone who may handle said items to insure they are used in a safe and responsible manner. You also agree to take responsibility for any damage that your item may cause regardless of who is in possession of the item at the time of damage (this means if you bring something and loan it to someone else, YOU are still responsible). Abusing this privilege may result in a verbal warning, confiscation of your item, or even expulsion.
- Any item that is used as a blunt weapon (I.E., thwacking someone with ANY object) will be confiscated. Verbal warning may not apply.
- If you purchased or brought from home any item that is not an approved item, please take them to your car or hotel room. Should you inform us you do not have a safe place for it, it will be held for you by our SAFETY MONITORS until you are ready to leave. Thank you for your cooperation.
- The AFW STAFF, Reserves the right to ban any item we deem hazardous or Offensive to the general public. AFW decisions are final! Debating with the staff will not sway the decision!

- Children 9 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This is 1) to prevent them from getting lost, and 2) to keep them from touching expensive A/V equipment.
- In the event of separation, we encourage you to tell your children that they should find a staff member. Our staff will bring them safely to the information and registration desk.
- If you are responsible for a child, BE responsible for the child. Keep an eye on them, what they're doing, and who they're with. We are not responsible for wayward children - of any age.

Costumes that are bulky, difficult to maneuver, restrict vision, have mascot-type heads, projecting shoulders or otherwise present possible safety issues for the wearer or those they come in contact with are asked to travel with an unencumbered escort (someone in no costume or one without any restricting features) when moving through high-traffic public areas of the con. If no escort is available, you may be asked to return the costume to your hotel room or car, or remove and safely carry the portions of your costume causing concern. If you are in Cosplay, you should inform the staff if you need help moving or walking up stairs in your costume.

- Please remember talking during videos is disruptive to other attendees and save your comments for outside.

Social Guidelines
- Harassment, whether verbal or physical, will not be tolerated at the convention. This includes anime haters who come for the sake of "crashing" or ruining the event. If you are rude to the guests, Event volunteers or coordinators, or Hotel Staff, you may be asked to leave the hotel without refund.
- Stealing is illegal (and just plain wrong!). Attempting to steal merchandise from the booths, vendors, prize tables, etc. will result in you being evicted from the convention without refund and may result in having criminal action brought upon you.
- This is an all age’s convention. Hentai materials will not be shown, and con-goers are asked to refrain from indecent exposure when selecting a costume.
- Disruptive behavior such as horse play will not be tolerated in any of the function spaces operated by Anime Festival Wichita. If caught by convention security, you will be given a warning. If disruptive behavior persists, you will be expelled from the convention.
- Anime Festival Wichita is an alcohol free event. Serving and/or consumption of alcohol in any of our function space is prohibited. You will be asked to put it away in your hotel room or car. Keep in mind alcohol could lead to disruptive behavior, which could get you expelled from Anime Festival Wichita.
- Do not obstruct traffic by stopping in the middle of a pathway to talk to someone.
- While we cannot anticipate or accommodate every request, we will do everything possible to ensure all reasonable requirements are met.
- "Glomping" (aggressive hugging, often without warning) can be disruptive and even cause harm to unsuspecting targets or bystanders being jostled in a crowded space. Please do not "Glomp" anyone without asking permission first.
Repeated problems may be considered disruptive behavior and result in warnings and eviction from the convention.

Safety Guidelines and Tips
- Otaku or not, you are still (assumedly) human. Please remember to take care of your body's basic needs... food, water, rest. Stay hydrated, don't get overheated, and keep your tummy sated. Don't worry; we'll be here when you're done eating and napping.
- PLEASE... HELP US COMBAT DA FUNK. You want to make new friends and be a lovely social butterfly, don't you? Then brush them pearly whites, bathe, wash your hair, and use deodorant; preferably daily. We will all love you for it.
- If you are going to be sitting for a long time (video rooms, gaming area), please remember to stand up and stretch on occasion (although not in front of the person behind you trying to watch the show!). It will help your joints from getting stiff.
- Do not play a guitar in front of a bathroom. I don't know why this seems so appealing to some people, but it's really annoying and if you want people to listen to you, please perform in a place where bathroom smells won't be wafting at you every time someone walks by. We ask you not to block high traffic areas for safety reasons. Play in the Lounge area of “Live Events Room 1” during free time. Though do not block the walkways there either. Be creative, be safe, If unsure ask.
- If you need assistance because of a disability, or for some silly reason you've forgotten to eat for two days and feel faint, please let the staff know! We want you healthy and comfortable, and are here to help.
- Don’t take Pocky from strangers! As a matter of fact, be wary of any gift from a stranger. Your mommy was right on this one.
Please for information on the rules.
